On the cross
and graven images
(Exodus
20:4-5)
|
I FIND YOUR magazine very interesting. The
theology it expresses is very thought provoking. I read an
article about your view on the Trinity, and I have to say that
your arguments are very compelling. I also read that
you do not hang crosses in your houses of worship. Can you
explain to me why? I know that the Moslems and
some Christian sects believe that any ornamentation in a place
of worship takes one's attention away from the
contemplation and worship of God—is this also your reason?
Doug and Angie Whipple,
Everett, Washington, USA

The saints in
the Bible |
AS A CATHOLIC, I often
wonder why the Iglesia ni Cristo believes in the Bible and yet
does not believe in saints like Luke, Mark, Paul, and Matthew
when in fact they are the ones who wrote the New Testament.
It was not Jesus Christ who wrote the New Testament but it
was His disciples who wrote everything Jesus taught them. In
spite of this fact, why is it that you don't believe in St.
Peter, St. Luke, St. John, and so on?

Mother of God? |
I AM 21 years old and an active member of the
Catholic religion. As a Catholic I believe that Mary is the
mother of God (Lord Jesus Christ). Do you believe on the apparition
of Virgin Mary?

Instruments to
remember the Lord or
objects of worship? |
I ALWAYS READ
the God's Message (Pasugo)
though I am not yet a member of the
Iglesia ni Cristo. I've noticed that in your articles
that tackle image-worship, you always quote Exodus
20:3-5 and assert that Catholics
violate God's commandment expressed
in these verses. But one seminarian explained to
me that Catholics do not in fact worship images; rather,
they make use of them as instruments to
remember our Lord God and the saints.
According to him, some of them regard these images as
religious souvenirs that prevent
them from doing evil. What can you say about this explanation?
Lian R. Vasquez, Queensland, Australia

Mary
everywhere? |
NON-CATHOLICS OFTEN ATTACK
the respect and veneration we dedicate to the Virgin Mary.
But you cannot blame us for having such devotion as a reaction
to Her apparition. For what can you say about the apparitions
of the Holy Mary in Portugal and in almost every Christian
country, which the world believes to be real? Are they
not real?
Juny Chan,
Bangkok, Thailand

Believing in
saints |
I HAVE BEEN WATCHING your television programs in
Net 25. When your ministers
preach, I notice that they do not address the apostles
as "saints." Paul, for instance, is called "Apostle
Paul" but never as "Saint Paul." Why?
Do you not believe in
saints? Do you not consider Peter, Luke, John, and the
rest of the apostles and evangelists as saints?
Perry S. Abiera,
Manila City, Philippines
