Examine the Verse
John 4:21-24
This verse is claimed to
provide the basis of the Iglesia ni Cristo
belief in the absolute oneness of God,
that the only true God is the Father in heaven;
The Father is the Lord God Almighty, the Creator of all things;
God is Spirit, eternal, immortal and invisible.
|
21 Jesus said to her,
“Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither
on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the
Father.
22 You worship what you do not
know; we know what we worship, for
salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour is coming, and
now is, when the true worshipers will worship the
Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is
seeking such to worship Him.
24 God
is
Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in
spirit and truth.”

Version) |

Iglesia ni Cristo belief in God and
Jesus Christ:
Iglesia
ni Cristo believes in the absolute oneness
of God, that "the
Only True God is the Father" in heaven; The Father is the Lord God Almighty, the
Creator of all things. God is Spirit, eternal, immortal and invisible; He is the
God and Father of Jesus Christ and His Apostles; and that of
Moses,
Abraham and the ancient Israelites.
Iglesia ni
Cristo believes that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God. As the Son
of God,
Jesus is a
Man.
However, Jesus is not an ordinary man but a "very special Man",
who was sanctified; made
Lord, Christ, Savior, Mediator and Judge by God. |

Apostle's admonition, warning and
unique way of teaching:
1.
No prophecy of scripture is a matter of personal
interpretation. (II Pt. 1:20, NAB)
2. Do not go beyond what
is written. (I
Cor. 4:6, NIV)
3.
We do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to
us by the Spirit,
using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths. (1
Cor. 2:13, NLT) |

Points to Consider: |
|
|
1.
Notice that In the above verses, the Lord Jesus
Christ Himself is talking to the Samaritan woman by Jacob's
well in Samaria.
2. In the above verse, the Lord Jesus said that,
"But the hour is coming, and
now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in
spirit and truth". Why will the true worshipers
worship the Father in spirit and truth? Jesus
clarified that "God is Spirit". Thus, Jesus is in effect is
saying that God, the Father is Spirit in nature and state of
being.
3. Please note carefully that Jesus' statement in the
above verses is consistent with Christ's teaching that the only
true God is the Father (John 17:3). Jesus even declared that
He too worship God, the Father when He said "we know what we worship,..."
(John 4:22) referring to the Father. |

John 4:21-24 in other versions of
the Bible: |
|
|
Jesus saith unto her, Woman,
believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this
mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye
worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for
salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit
and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him
in spirit and in truth.
(King James
Version)
“Woman,”
Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is
coming when you will worship the Father neither on this
mountain nor in Jerusalem. You
Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we
do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
Yet a time is coming and has now come when
the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit
and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father
seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the
Spirit and in truth.”
(New International Version)
