Examine the Verse
John 1:32,34
This verse is
claimed to provide the basis of the
Iglesia ni Cristo belief that
"Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God"―not God the Son,
and more so not God himself.
|
And John
bore witness, saying, “I saw the
Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained
upon Him.
33 I did
not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said
to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and
remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy
Spirit.’
34 And
I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
(John 1:32,34, New King James
Version) |

Iglesia ni Cristo belief in God and
Jesus Christ:
Iglesia
ni Cristo believes in the absolute oneness
of God, that "the
Only True God is the Father" in heaven; The Father is the Lord God Almighty, the
Creator of all things. God is Spirit, eternal, immortal and invisible; He is the
God and Father of Jesus Christ and His Apostles; and that of
Moses,
Abraham and the ancient Israelites.
Iglesia ni
Cristo believes that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God. As the Son
of God,
Jesus is a
Man.
However, Jesus is not an ordinary man but a "very special Man",
who was sanctified; made
Lord, Christ, Savior, Mediator and Judge by God. |

Apostle's admonition, warning and
unique way of teaching:
1.
No prophecy of scripture is a matter of personal
interpretation. (II Pt. 1:20, NAB)
2. Do not go beyond what
is written. (I
Cor. 4:6, NIV)
3.
We do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to
us by the Spirit,
using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths. (1
Cor. 2:13, NLT) |

Points to Consider: |
|
|
1. Notice
that in the above verses, it is John the Baptist speaking
about his testimony of Jesus.
2. In the above verse John the Baptist clearly said,
"And
I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
3. Please note carefully that John the
Baptist said "Son of God", not "God the Son". |

John 1:32,34 in other versions of
the Bible: |
|
|
And John bare record, saying, I saw
the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode
upon him. And I saw, and bare
record that this is the Son of God.
(King James
Version)
Then John said this for everyone to hear:
“I also did not know who the Messiah was. But the one who
sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘You will see the
Spirit come down and rest on a man. He is the one who will
baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen this happen. I
saw the Spirit come down from heaven like a dove and rest on
this man. So this is what I tell people: ‘He is the Son of
God.’ (Easy to Read Version)
Then John
testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove
from heaven and resting upon him. I saw this happen to
Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.
(New Living Translation)
