Examine the Verse
Philippians 2:9-11
This verse is claimed to
provide the basis of the Iglesia ni Cristo belief
that
Jesus is not an
ordinary man but a very special Man,
who was sanctified; made Lord, Christ, Savior, Mediator and Judge by God.
|
Because of that obedience,
God lifted him high and honored him far beyond
anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings
in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will
bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call
out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the
glorious honor of God the Father.
(Philippians 2:9-11, The Message) |
|
|
Therefore God also has
highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is
above every name,
10 that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven,
and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
11 and
that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Philippians 2:9-11, New King James Version) |

Iglesia ni Cristo belief in God and
Jesus Christ:
Iglesia
ni Cristo believes in the absolute oneness
of God, that "the
Only True God is the Father" in heaven; The Father is the Lord God Almighty, the
Creator of all things. God is Spirit, eternal, immortal and invisible; He is the
God and Father of Jesus Christ and His Apostles; and that of
Moses,
Abraham and the ancient Israelites.
Iglesia ni
Cristo believes that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God. As the Son
of God,
Jesus is a
Man.
However, Jesus is not an ordinary man but a "very special Man",
who was sanctified; made
Lord, Christ, Savior, Mediator and Judge by God. |

Apostle's admonition, warning and
unique way of teaching:
1.
No prophecy of scripture is a matter of personal
interpretation (2 Pt. 1:20, NAB)
2. Do not go beyond what is written. (1 Cor. 4:6, NIV)
3.
We do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to
us by the Spirit,
using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths. (1
Cor. 2:13, NLT) |

Points to Consider: |
|
|
1. Please
notice the reason why Jesus was highly exalted, in the
preceding verse 8, this is written: "And
being found in appearance as a man, He
humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of
death, even the death of the cross" (NKJV).
Thus, Jesus is a man who was obedient to God, even up to
death.
2. Notice what the above verse clearly says,
"Because of that obedience, God lifted
him high and honored him or highly exalted Him.... so all
created beings.... will bow and worship Him". Thus, it
was God the Father who ordered Jesus to be worshipped, not
because Jesus is God but only for God's glorious honor.
The fact that God exalted Him and ordered Him to be
worshipped is proof that Jesus is not God Himself but a very
special Man.

Philippians 2:9-11 in other versions of
the Bible: |
|
|
9Wherefore
God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which
is above every name: 10That
at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11And
that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
(King James
Version)
9 So God raised him up
to the most important place and gave him the name that is greater
than any other name. 10
God did this so that every person will bow down to honor the name of
Jesus. Everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth will bow.
11 They will all
confess, “Jesus Christ is Lord,” and this will bring glory to God
the Father.
